Desk sharing with EnoSense® Desk - improved detection of presence at the workplace
Compared to the EnoSense® WALL & DESK, our new sensor has a motion detector (PIR) in addition to a vibration sensor. It detects movements below the edge of the table and recognizes people even if they do not touch the table for a longer period of time due to their activity. It thus serves as the foundation for your smart office and a desk-sharing solution. As things on the table would often cover a solar cell, in this case we opted for pure battery operation. The EnoSense® Desk sends a signal every 4 minutes when a person is detected. With its stylish design housing, it fits unobtrusively on any desk and is only 81 x 41 x 9 mm in size (measured without the PIR shield, otherwise +17 mm).
The EnoSense® Desk uses a combination of vibration sensor and motion detection (PIR) to provide reliable detection of workplace usage in your Smart Office.

Improved detection with low usage of the desktop surface
In the age of video conferencing and the smart office, employees may go for extended periods without sitting at their desks, instead working solely via audio and video systems, for example. In this case, detection via vibration is not possible. A reliable solution is needed to support desk sharing.
Record several workstations on one tabletop
If there is more than one workstation on a tabletop in your Smart Office, detection via vibration is generally not possible. The sensors would interfere with one another, as vibrations are transmitted even across the distance to the adjacent workstation. Motion detection using only a PIR sensor is the solution here. This makes desk sharing possible even in this scenario.
The photos show an EnoSense® DESK mounted on a table top. The motion sensor (PIR) is looking downwards at the front of the table. In these examples, the cover is fitted, which shields the detection to the left-hand side. The sensor is attached using the double-sided adhesive pad already attached to the sensor.
Sensor Analysis
When motion is detected via the vibration sensor and / or the PIR motion detector, depending on the operating mode, the EnoSense® Desk sends a “Motion detected” message = 1 immediately and then every 4 minutes. When at rest, it sends a “No motion detected” message once. This is followed every 60 minutes by a “No movement detected” message. Here in the picture, the 4 minutes are reduced to 30 seconds.
The EnoSense® Desk has an internal CR2032 battery for trouble-free operation day and night, in any room at any time. This ensures that the sensor also works when things get a little hectic on the desk for a long time.
The EnoSense® Desk comes with two covers. Depending on which side of the desk the sensor is to be mounted, a matching cover is available to limit the PIR sensor’s motion detection to the opposite side. This does not affect the vibration sensor.
